Original Earth Painting of “Crow Mother Katsina” [SOLD]

Pablita Velarde of Santa Clara Pueblo was best known for her earth paintings, where she used mineral and rock elements, which she would grind using a traditional metate and mano until the result was a powdery substance from which she made her paints.

This image of Crow Mother is, I believe, one of her early pieces using earth minerals. It probably dates to the 1950s. It is signed in lower right and is in excellent condition.
