Beatien Yazz, Navajo Nation Painter

This is one of the more unusual paintings by Beatien Yazz. There are other bird paintings, but not that many. This painting features a beautiful owl being observed by three birds. The coloration of the birds is muted and beautiful. It is obvious from this painting that Yazz was very familiar with nature.

Beatien Yazz was a very talented artist. Collectors are familiar with his style of paintings reflecting on everyday life on the Navajo Reservation in which he generally featured young Navajo boys and girls going about their routine duties or his scenes of animals such as deer and horses. Less familiar are his more unusual paintings such as this one, but it is paintings such as this one that illustrate his true talent as an artist.

Provenance: This painting is among a collection from the Balcomb family, formerly owners of an art gallery which they closed in 1976.

Note: this painting has matting placed with it and shrink-wrapped, but it is unframed.
