Tony Abeyta has a wonderful relationship with his chosen profession as artist. He greets the challenge of creating art with enthusiasm and never settles into a familiar routine. When he feels he is getting too familiar with a style, he moves on to new creativity. One only has to review his past works to see his constant progression into new styles of painting.
While living in Taos, New Mexico, Abeyta was a keen student of pueblo life and an avid enthusiast of early 20th century Taos artists—Berninghaus, Couse, Sharp and others. Their influence on this period of his life is evident in this painting of a group of Taos Pueblo young women strolling through a grove of Aspen. Abeyta vividly portrays, in this painting, the cool mountain air at the time of year when the Aspens are turning from their bright summer green to fall yellows and reds. He further enhances this feeling with the young women being wrapped in blankets and shawls.
The painting was completed in 2005 and is in original excellent condition. It is framed in a gold-leaf handmade wood frame made by Tres Mowka Designs of Santa Fe.
