A popular trend of the twentieth century was to take damaged Navajo rugs and cut out portions that were not damaged and use them as facings for sofa pillows. Additionally, small Navajo rugs were converted to pillows, as well. Because of the design on this textile, we believe it was a whole rug, not a fragment from a large damaged one.
The yarn is a blend of browns and reds carded with white wool. It is typical of a General Reservation pattern. The white and brown rectangle elements are natural undyed wool. The back side of the pillow was made from off-white fabric. There is a zipper. The inside is a finished pillow, as well, not just loose filling.
Condition: very good condition
