Alma is one of six Loretto sisters from Jemez Pueblo. She learned to make figurines as a child. She made her first storyteller in 1969 after she married and moved to Taos Pueblo. By 1984, she had moved back to Jemez. Her storytellers are completely buff and terra cotta, with featureless faces and Taos style braids.
This figurine was most probably made after Alma’s return to her native pueblo. It is signed Alma Jemez-Laguna Pueblo, N.M. It is in excellent condition with only minor soiling on one child.
