Hanomnna is a katsina of the Hopi-Tewa village and is given to their young girls in the same manner that katsinas present Hahai-i-Wuhti to the girls of the Hopi villages. Even some Hopi present her as gifts to Hopi girls.
These flat dolls are the first gifts presented to girls at the dance following their birth. They are called Putskatithu in Hopi and flat dolls in English. They are a popular item for tourists to purchase as gifts for new babies—sometimes calling them crib katsinas.
Condition: The doll is in very good condition with some paint missing here and there but nothing of significance.
Provenance: From the estate of Transcendental artist Florence Pierce of Albuquerque who passed away in 2007 at the age of 89.
