This tableta is decorated on front and back with different designs. One side features an image of a Hopi Katsina along with floral and rain symbols. The other side features rain symbols and feathers. Tabletas are worn by females during dances following the Katsina dance season.
Generally, dance tabletas are made by male members of a family for use by a female family member.
There was a time in the 1980s and 1990s when one could purchase tabletas from young girls following a dance, but tribal rules eventually prevented that. Now, they are very difficult to obtain from the Reservation.
Provenance: This tableta actually was purchased by Adobe Gallery in the 1980s on the Reservation and sold to a client who now wishes to release it to some other collector.
