Small ollas like this are sometimes referred to as "Child's Water Jars." They either were made for a young girl to learn the process for carrying a water jar on her head, or in some instances, a young potter made her own vessel.
It exhibits all of the traits of a regular size jar of this period. It has a brown rim around the opening and a concave impression on the underbody. The underbody is brown and the decoration is red and brown on the traditional white slip. The decoration of heartline deer and medallions is as traditional as it gets at Zuni.
The jar itself is in excellent condition. There is some loss of paint, both in the brown and red, and a couple of very small spall marks to the surface.
