According to Harlow, Anderson and Lanmon, jars of this style fall into the period of 1830-1930. Their distinguishing characteristics are "prominent bands or figures of red, often with negative (open) areas, and usually with some of the edges of the red not outlined with black, especially the islands of open areas."
Another distinguishing feature of this time period is a figure that has been named the “Eiffel Tower.” The origin of this name is unknown, but perhaps the stepped triangular shape reminded someone of the Parisian Eiffel Tower. It appears frequently on jars of this time period.
Still another design associated with this time period is negative (open area) crescents in a vertical band, and a wide red band wiped on underneath the decorated areas.
All of these elements described above are evident in this jar. It is most likely that the jar falls into the 1880 time period.
The jar is in excellent condition. There are fire clouds on one side of the vessel, and there is some very minor surface abrasion in one area.
