The Naranjos continued throughout their career in building their pottery figurines using all natural materials and traditional methods. The clay came from the hills of Cochiti Pueblo, the white slip from Kewa Pueblo, the red from Bandelier and the black from boiling the leaves of the beeweed, which grows near the village. Nothing was commercial. They fired their pottery in the traditional outdoor firing technique where the pottery was placed on a metal grill over a cedar fire, protected by wire and covered with cow chips.
This fox storyteller figurine is a creation of the Naranjos. They made these fox figurines posed in various positions. This one is co-signed by Louis and Virginia.
Condition: The left ear of the fox sitting on the lap of the adult was broken off and has been glued on. There is no other damage or evidence of abrasion of paint.
