Louis and Virginia Naranjo were standard bearers for figurative pottery at Cochiti Pueblo. They ventured into making figurines unlike the storyteller figurines made by most potters. Virginia suffered a stroke in 1980, fell and broke her right arm and was unable to work for several years during which time Louis worked alone.
It is pieces co-signed by Louis and Virginia that are among the rarest. Pieces made by Louis alone bear his signature only. This angel figurine is co-signed so that defines it as having been made before 1980 or after 1987 when Virginia began helping Louis again.
Most of the imaginative figurines resulted from the fertile mind of Louis. He was most creative as illustrated in this figurine of an angel with a nacimiento set on her lap, consisting of the Holy Family and another angel. I know of no other potter who has made such a figurine.
Condition: The figurine is in original excellent condition.
