An impressive vessel of wonderfully crude and archaic character. This vessel is coil-formed in two sections, an upper cauldron and lower pedestal section. The work is fired with a high-grog clay of deeply pitted, coarse, and cracked surface quality, the only applied surface decoration being a series of impressed vertical lines at rim and along the base at three locations. The cauldron has an applied handle of unembellished surface. The inset lines bear the slightest traces of an orange-red oxide. Excellent condition, signed Dillingham July 72.
