Pottery sales dropped off at Santo Domingo Pueblo in 1910 or very close to that. When the Aguilar sisters mentioned this to the trader at the pueblo, he suggested that they experiment with other ways of decorating their pottery. They accepted his advice and developed two very distinctive decorations—one, nearly all black with thin cream lines, and another using black and red with very little cream. It is not known whether the public immediately accepted this new style but we know that it is widely accepted and appreciated today. Felipita Aguilar Garcia seemed to prefer the all black style while her sister Asunción Aguilar Caté preferred the use of black and red. This magnificent jar is the epitome of the finest Santo Domingo vessel ever made. The very sparse cream lines define the design that is bold black geometric. The black neck, void of any decoration, could not be more beautiful. This style was short lived because Felipita ceased pottery production in 1914 due to advancing age and declining health.
