The Sun Face is an important cultural symbol of the Zuni people. It represents the sun which brings warmth and growth. The sun and its changes are important to the Zuni who are traditionally farmers. As such, the movements of the sun and knowledge of the seasons are important to them. The Zuni honor the sun by incorporating the Sun Face into many aspects of art including jewelry, fetishes and paintings.
This Zuni set consists of a necklace, bracelet, earrings and ring. All are comprised of mosaic and channel inlay Sun faces. Each face has a coral, jet, shell and turquoise mosaic center surrounded by turquoise and jet channel inlay. The necklace consists of five Sun faces, with the center one a bit larger than the other four. They are connected by hand-made silver links. The bracelet has three Sun faces, with the center one a bit larger. The earrings are clip-on. The ring has been crafted to curve with the shape of the finger. Each and every one of the Sun faces is perfectly made.
