The highlight of this bolo is the magnificent multi-gemstone Thunderbird figure. It was assembled from turquoise, coral, mother of pearl, jet, and silver. The tips suspended from the ends of the rope are made from mother of pearl and coral. The Thunderbird is formidable in appearance with a regal appeal. He looks off to the left, as distracted by something. The black jet feathers are surrounded with silver, setting them apart as individual feathers. The mother of pearl tail feathers shine with radiance.

The Thunderbird Symbol, deeply rooted in Native lore, stands as a potent emblem of power, protection, and strength. This majestic entity is often revered as the most formidable among all spirits. Its transformative abilities are truly awe-inspiring; it can metamorphose into a human form through an intriguing process. This involves opening its head akin to unmasking oneself and shedding its feathers as effortlessly as one would remove a blanket. This vivid imagery underscores the Thunderbird's profound spiritual significance and its dynamic nature.

The bolo is inscribed with the name Shirley Chavez, but we have been unable to locate information on her. There are several Chavez names listed as jewelers from Zuni Pueblo, but no one named Shirley.
