This is a magnificent relatively large Zia storage jar made by Eusebia Toribio Shije, probably in the 1990s. It commands quite a visual presence. There are four design panels, each one framed in a wide rainbow arch and each one containing a Zia bird along with other traditional items. The potter signed her name on the side of the jar just under the design panels.

Shije has been an award-winning potter for a number of years. She won the award for Best Traditional Zia Pottery in 1980 and 1981 at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Indian Arts Fund Award for Overall Excellence in 1984, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for a number of years at Indian Market.

Condition: Structurally the jar is in excellent condition. There are some minor spots of spalling but nothing of significance. The jar is beautiful.

Provenance: ex. coll. Frances Sonnenberg, Santa Fe resident.
