Rugan is a class of katsinas that come in groups, accompanied by the Corn Maidens, who play on rasp musical instruments. There are various types of Rugan Katsinas. Generally they are associated with the growth of corn. This one dates to circa 1940s before the use of shiny acrylic paints. The basic body, legs and head were carved from a single cottonwood root and the ears and snout were added, typical of the period. This doll is accompanied by a metal stand for stability.
Condition: overall in good condition with a chip on the front of the left foot and some minor paint chips. A natural crack runs down the back of the doll.
