Robert Tenorio, Kewa Pueblo Potter

Robert Tenorio, early in his career, made stoneware vessels. At some time later he switched to making traditional coiled pottery of Kewa Pueblo. His stoneware vessels are relatively rare. This bowl is signed and dated 1968. On the interior, Tenorio carved three frogs into the clay and toned them brown on the mottled yellow background wall. On the exterior, he carved birds into the clay and highlighted parts of them in dark brown on the light brown background. In Kewa Pueblo tradition, he painted the rim black and incised a framing line just below the rim. Condition: the bowl is in original condition. Provenance: from the collection of Katherine H. Rust
