Santana Tenorio | Acoma Pueblo | Southwest Indian Pottery | Contemporary | signature

I have found no significant published information on Santana Tenorio other than she is listed by name, without any other information, in Southern Pueblo Pottery by Gregory Schaaf.  In conversation with Robert Tenorio, he indicated that she has been deceased over 50 years now.  Based on his comments, we have indicated above a birth date of late 19th century and death around mid-20th century.  We use these dates solely for the purpose of placing her in a time frame as a potter although the dates have no documented basis.

It is obvious from examining this sole item of pottery by her that she was very good at vessel formation and precise painting of designs.  The vessel is well balanced and the design is perfectly proportioned.

Condition: UV examination reveals no repair or restoration of any kind.

Provenance: from a gentleman in Santa Fe
