In the 1960s and 1970s, Dextra worked with her mother, Rachel, and painted the traditional Sikyatki designs made famous by the Nampeyo family. She continued this for a number of years, yet she never repeated the same design ever according to her. This makes it difficult to date one of her earlier creations as there are none to which one can compare.
This red Hopi canteen displays the Long Hair Katsina face flanked by a pair of rain cloud symbols. It is signed Dextra and with her hallmark corn clan symbol. I am estimating it to be from the 1970s or 1980s eras because of the design. The canteen may be displayed resting on its back or may be hung using the leather straps currently attached.
Condition: The canteen is in original condition.
