This Hopi cylindrical jar was signed with the name Nampeyo at the time the jar was made. The signature was painted in the same brown pigment used in the design. It is most likely that Nampeyo made the cylinder and her daughter Annie Healing signed her mom's name as Nampeyo did not write.
The cylinder features traditional stylized Sikyatki-type designs employed often by Nampeyo of Hano. One might identify the graceful curved design elements as stylized bird motifs.
