Zuni Pueblo Mosaic Sun Face Earrings [R]

A beautiful pair of Sun Face earrings with feathered headdress is fashioned with stone-to-stone inlay in typical 1940s Zuni style. The Sun Face Kachina is a popular design motif for Zuni jewelry. It represents warmth, shelter for the old, bright future and playfulness of the young. Each sun face is composed of intricately cut, shaped and set pieces of turquoise, jet, mother of pearl and spiny oyster shell. The work is precise and extremely well balanced. It is a beautiful set of earrings. They were originally equipped with screw backs but have been converted for pierced ears.
