Five Kachina Sun Face medallions with feathered headdresses are connected by a handmade silver chain in this stunning piece from 1940s Zuni. The Sun Face Kachina is a popular design motif for Zuni jewelry. The Sun Face Kachina represents warmth, shelter for the old, bright future and playfulness of the young. In this piece, four smaller medallions frame a larger one. All five are connected by delicate handmade links that have small pieces of turquoise in them. Each sun face is composed of intricately cut, shaped and set pieces of turquoise, jet, mother of pearl and spiny oyster shell. The work is precise and extremely well balanced. It is a beautiful piece.
