Hand made silver table service was popular before the Great Depression, but suffered from that time on. Revival of interest caused the Diné to start making it again sometime following World War II.

This set of nine teaspoons was made from heavy gauge sheet silver in the 1960s. The bowls of the spoons are beautifully stamped, but the true artwork is on the handles, where the artisan hand hammered the ends. Triangular-shaped turquoise cabochons were then placed in silver bezels near the end of the handles.

These 9 teaspoons match the salad service set on our site. The same artisan made them for the same client. To see the salad service set, click on this link.

Provenance: These spoons were made at the request of Hilda Street of The Streets of Taos Shop in Santa Fe in the early 1960s. Hilda ordered a set of 8 spoons, but the maker made a spare.
