Beautifully realized in English red, ochre and midnight blue, this powerful work features a Hopi holy figure, centrally oriented in a lovely variegated red-brown field. With technical mastery so typical of her work, Hardin has here rendered a crisp, precise yet somehow intuitive representation of this Hopi figure, proving again her willingness to appropriate the motif/figurative practices of another indigenous group and reinterpret these elements into her own inimitable style. Wonderfully balanced and poised, almost monolithic in character, evocative and without the constraints of time. Signed at right, Tsa-sah-wee-eh with the artist’s cartouche, numbered 24/60 at left with house chop and printers chop at right.
