A new style of Navajo rugs was developed in the 1970s by Bruce Burnham of Burntwater, Arizona. Called “Burntwater” after the name of the trading post, this style developed the widest-ever range of pastel hues, using both vegetal dyes and commercially-produced aniline dyes on wools of the revival style with the elaborate Two Grey Hills patterns.
This new style textile in soft pastel colors received immediate acceptance and fit perfectly into contemporary “Santa Fe Style.” The Burntwater rugs have become highly popular and are here to stay.
This rug incorporates colors of green, blue, pink, brown, white and grey. Borders of the designs have raised outlines, another unique characteristic of Burntwater textiles.
Condition: This rug is in original excellent condition.
Provenance: Estate of Evelyn and Herbert Weinstein, Santa Fe.
