This is a very traditional San Juan Pueblo jar dating to the period before 1900. The full body of the vessel was slipped in red clay from the pueblo and then stone-polished to a high luster. It is a beautiful deep dark red of the color seen in pre-1900 vessels. It is an exquisite jar with a bulbous body and a short neck. It is structurally in excellent condition.
Provenance: From the estate of Transcendental artist Florence Pierce of Albuquerque who passed away in 2007 at the age of 89.
